Lute Maleki (Life Fellow, IEEE) received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Louisiana State University, New Orleans, in 1972 and 1975, respectively.,He was a Senior Distinguished Engineer with GM Cruise LLC and a Senior Research Scientist with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) where he created and grew the Quantum Sciences and Technologies Group over a period of 23 years. He has been with OEwaves Inc. as the President and the CEO since 2007. In that capacity, he was responsible for the group’s multi-million dollar budget, and the management of one of the largest technical groups at JPL that was internationally recognized as the Leader in atomic clocks, frequency standards, and an array of photonic and quantum sensors. He is an inventor in over 60 U.S. patents and applications, including the OEO, and has authored and coauthored over 200 refereed publications and over 300 conference proceedings.,Dr. Maleki is a fellow of OSA and APS. He was awarded the Distinguished IEEE I. I. Rabi Award for his scientific and technical leadership in atomic frequency standards, the NASA Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal for the development of atomic clocks and oscillators supporting the U.S. space program, and the C. B. Sawyer Memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership and Entrepreneurship.
